Grocery shopping at Sam's

Tuesday night was our grocery shopping night. Over the years we have done the shopping many different ways. I have gone alone, I've taken one or two children with me as runners, I've taken all the children, Arthur's gone alone, or taken kids with him. Recently Arthur and I thought we'd start making Saturday morning trips to Sam's alone....early 7:00 am before Arthur has to go to work. This worked well, because it didn't take as much time away from the kids....and we had alone time in the car. Now for the past 2 Saturdays we have been out of town, and we haven't been to Sam's. This isn't a good thing, because we spend lots more money if we shop at the local grocery stores. Monday after our return home from Memphis, I assessed cabinets/shelves and saw there wasn't any way to wait until Saturday to go buy groceries. The kids didn't want to stay home, so we all went. With my computer list of the groceries and personal items we needed we set off to do our shopping. With 3 buggies and the list divided among the 3, we each set off to shop. $524.00 and 1 hour later we were done and packing up to head home. Once home Amanda and Madison helped the little boys get on PJ's, and brush their teeth. (The kids ate ice cream at Sam's, that was their snack...I believe that was the highlight of their trip.) Arthur, Rebekah and I unpacked the van and placed the extra groceries and bulk items in the garage. Elizabeth worked in the kitchen to put the groceries away. We were able to do all of this in just 2 1/2 hours, really that's like a record. Here's a run down of our trip, round trip to Sam's is 1 hour, we did 1 hour of shopping/browsing, and 30 minutes to put away all groceries. We left our house at 6:00 pm and we were back home and finished by 8:30 pm. Really, I was so excited to be done with this task, almost as excited as I was that the boys were in bed by 8:15 pm....only 15 minutes past their normal bedtime. This was a BIG HIGH 5 moment! Looks like this is the new way the Muncks will be doing our grocery shopping.
Silly Kids

Wesley was over the shopping trip.

Loaded up and ready to go.

Now comes the fun part, strategically placing everything. With 2 refrigerators, 1 deep
freeze and plenty of shelves for storage, it's all in arranging and
organization.....this has come over time with trial and much error. I am a perfectionist, but I wasn't always so organized. I truly believe the key to organization is simplifying....that always remains a work in progress :)
We thank the Lord daily for the many material blessings like our home, the clothes we wear, the food we eat, HE has always provided our needs.

Sounds so familiar :)

When I saw the milk and eggs I wished you could live closer so we could give you some. We have so much!!!

Thanks for sharing your shopping journey.

I need lessons from you on how to stay organized. I think I also need your patience!! I get so stressed when we all go to the store together. Bill goes alone now, I just stay home.

I love this post. Now, I don't remember you telling how often you go...how long will this last. I don't think the cost was outrageous for 11 people. I spent 250.00 for the 4 of us. That will last us 2 weeks.

Looks like this was a quick and efficient way to go shopping! I'm impressed you finished the shopping in an hour! It usually takes me about an hour at the commissary and we're only a family of 4!

I am amazed- first that you took all the kids, it only lasted an hour (with kids and a hubby in tow!) and your total was not as bad as I expected!

I can spend almost that for our fam of 6 and it takes me the same amount of time - if not more - granted, I usually have 2 or 3 little ones in tow with me.

Also- You look SO young! How can you possibly have 9 children?!!
