Stephen's Birthday

Memories Monday

I'm finally getting Stephen's birthday posted from October, better late than never I always say:)

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2010

On the morning of Stephen's birthday, he woke up to having the stomach bug. It was a Saturday and we had already decorated for his party. We were so sad he was sick!

His birthday theme was Hot Wheels....

But he didn't really feel up to a party or playing!

We had planned a birthday dinner of his favorite thing blackened salmon.....NOT good for a boy with the stomach flu!

Stephen slept off and on most of the day and by evening was feeling a little better, but not up for a big meal. So, we switched gears and made breakfast for his birthday dinner, his other favorite thing......
*Eggs
*Biscuits & Gravy
*Bacon
*Grape & apples

He nibbled at his dinner and then we decided we would wait and have cake on Sunday. That would give his stomach another day to recoup from his illness. Stephen opened his presents after dinner, feeling poorly or not a boy couldn't wait another day for his presents.....you know:)

SUNDAY

The next day Stephen was feeling much better and ready to finish his birthday celebration! It was a beautiful fall day so we decided to spend it outside.

We roasted hot dogs over the fire pit!!!! So for dinner on Sunday we had....
*Hot dogs
*Chili
*Slaw
* and Chips

This was a real treat because we don't eat hot dogs and chips often, I believe Stephen enjoyed having 2 birthday meals.

Finally it was cake time.....

All the littles came in and got cleaned up and put their pajamas on, and we had cake for a snack!

8 years old already, he'll be driving a real car before we know it! Time goes way to fast!

Stephen is now 8.3 years old, and in the past 3 months we have seen him grow in so many ways. He is growing so fast but the growth that I love seeing the most is the growth we see in him spiritually. We look forward to what the Lord has in store for him the rest of this year!

We love you, Buddy!!!!

NEXT week...
Memories Monday
Ruth Ella's 1st Birthday. Yes, that was in September, I am behind!!! But that will catch me up from last year, and get me ready for the birthday season to start over again next month! Wondering why I'm posting these very late birthdays, I want to chronicle them for my children/family late or not ;)

The last of our snow.....

This morning I was peering out the window into the backyard when I caught a glimpse of something on our trampoline. It was a football size clump of ice/snow left from the big snow last Monday. That clump is the only one remaining in our yard, all the other snow and ice melted away . We were thrilled the snow stayed around for over a week, others in our area weren't so happy with the snow. So, when I saw the clump of ice/snow dripping from the center of the trampoline it kind of made me sad. See we enjoyed the snow, it was such a drastic change for us here in southeast Tennessee. I enjoyed the calm that the snow brought to our home and community. For our family we aren't really fast paced people but because we work with the public daily it has a way of pulling us into the world hurry and rush! So, it was great to see everyone have to slow down. We soaked in the calm and beauty of the snow, along with hot cocoa, steaming tea, cookie baking, games, snuggling, reading, a warm fire, and yes our house project. But best of all we enjoyed the gift of snow that the Lord blessed us with. I will always stand amazed at the fact that no two snowflakes are the same, and how pure"white" snow is.......Oh to be pure as snow! Here are a few more pictures of something else we enjoyed about the snow, for the kids it was sledding, for me it was watching my children enjoy the gift of snow.

Rebekah and Ruth Ella taking the boys on a sled ride in the yard.

This was on Saturday, we were in shock that we had this much snow after 6 days!

The boys all took turns riding....

William and Wesley could have been pulled around all day long......

Laughs, giggles, hoops, and hollers is what you could hear echoing from all around......

On Saturday the children spent almost 6 hours outside playing in the snow.

All that golf cart riding, snow, and cold made one little girl plain tuckered out ;)

Most people in our area would call me crazy but I would welcome a snow like that any day! I think I'll pray for a little more, can't hurt , can it?!?

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Snowball Effect!!!!

We are still here and sitting right in the middle of ......

THE SNOWBALL EFFECT!!!!!!!

Our home project is taking shape nicely, and the painting is 100% finished. BUT, as most of you know what happens when you get into a home project it sets off another chain of events in the house...hence, creating the SNOWBALL EFFECT! Over the past few days we have had 3 rooms full of "stuff" trying to find a new location to stay or being given away/donated. You know when there are 12 in a home everything "must" have an appointed location :) In the mix of the clutter there is a great sense of accomplishment and as of yesterday I felt the feel of "NEW" buzzing around in our house. We cleaned up 2 rooms of clutter and mess yesterday and we only have 1 more room to tackle....Yep, this little project ended up not just touching on the 2 main rooms but 4 rooms! Lots of spring cleaning also happened in the process, which I was thrilled with. Now 1 of the main rooms is 90% finished those pictures are coming. The main makeover room, well it looks great! But you'll have to wait on pictures, we are waiting for the bedding to be delivered and Miss Rebekah is sewing up some curtains. And, I would like to show the room all complete :) As for room 3 and 4, we just have a few finishing touches on them. With this project being tackled we'll have less to do before baby arrives, which will be here before we know it. So, sorry for no pictures yet, but they are coming.... I promise.

Snow Storm...NO, a Brain Storm!

Well after several days of snow and our days being fairly low key, the Munck creative juices started flowing. We felt the need to get into a home project, and this one seemed to include everyone. Some are having to do more labor than others, and a few are just being a little shifted around for a few days....

There was moving furniture, taping out, and then on to the paint........

To keep the paint safe we gated the door, this way Miss Ruth Ella could still be a part and have a birds eye view ;)

Arthur spackled the nail holes and took the high part of trimming out with the paint.

(she is looking out here to a room full of boys!)

Miss Ruth Ella is sharing her room tonight with a few extra brothers and she was so tickled about it!

Wesley, William, Jonathan, and Ruth Ella welcomed in James and Stephen for the night....along with a few shelves, a desk, and the cubbies you see. So, the room is full to the brim tonight and all 6 of these children were looking forward to their camp out tonight!

Bright and early tomorrow morning we'll be working on our project again. We hope to be finished by Saturday, then I'll post pictures and tell about our new room arrangements.

A little look at our week so far...

This is what the road in front of our store looked like before the street plow came through last night. OK, for our friends up north this might not look like a big deal but we never get snow/ice
like this. In took our little city a few days to get the streets under control. As of today the main roads have been cleared, but the side roads are still pretty bad.

Today Great Doggie Doos our business reopened. Bright and early this morning Madison got busy shoveling ice and putting down salt to make it safe for our customers. We didn't groom today, we just opened for daycare and to care for the dogs that are there boarding. Amanda and Madison ran the store today, I think they were happy to see lots of our 4 legged friends return.

This is where Arthur and the children went sledding, this is Tinsley Park. It is located right behind our store, they have spent loads of time over there the past couple of days.

(James, Rebekah, Amanda, & Elizabeth...at the bottom of the hill are Stephen & Madison)

Tonight after supper Arthur, Elizabeth, Amanda, Rebekah, and Madison headed back out to night sled. When they returned they said the sledding was the fastest yet, we have all really enjoyed the snow. The little boys spent a little over 2 hours playing outside today, and didn't even want to come in then. That made for a quite house for their Mama, and some worn out boys from some hard play....a great mix!

Now what about a certain little girl who didn't go out to play? Well, she took a nice long nap. THEN.....

She did her favorite 2 things, climbed up on Wesley's bed to eat toothpaste!

Yep, that's what she likes to do play on Wesley's bed, BUT more than anything she loves to eat toothpaste....ALL THE TIME! Life is never dull, always full, and I love every minute of it :) I hope everyone is having a fantastic week, I know we are.

Our little snowman....

Jonathan reminded me of a snowman with a string mop in hand! His thoughts, imagination, and actions never cease to amaze me.

Jonathan enjoyed going out to play in the snow, his play was a little different than I have ever seen. It reminded me of the time he played in the grass this past spring.

Jonathan played with the mop for over an hour.....

He marched with the mop.....

He mopped/swept out all of our above ground vegetable beds. He worked very hard and wanted the job to be preformed well. (with 7 inches of snow it was a big task)

After the beds were completed to his satisfaction, he moved on to clearing a path to walk.

Next, Jonathan ventured over to help his brothers create a sled path....but didn't stick with this job for to long. James was pulling William on the sled and moving faster than Jonathan could keep up.

Still wanting to help his brothers out Jonathan decided to sweep the snow off the boys sled. James wasn't to sure about Jonathan's motive at first, but went along with Jonathan after a few minutes of Jonathan's coaxing

Now as I watched this next move I wasn't to sure what Jonathan was doing....Batting his brothers heads??? No, he wasn't batting their heads, he was just dusting snow from their hoods and backs. He thought he was being such a help.

Once they were dusted off Jonathan turned around and gave me this face...boy I love him!!!

When Jonathan plays it is never conventional, but quite entertaining and enlightening to those observing. This was another one of those days that I saw him living life to it's fullest, and what I noticed again was a boy living outside the box. Yet another reminder to not be stuck in a rut or box, but to seek to see all the beauty life has to offer us. To embrace our trials or hardships, and grow from them in the process, while being completely humbled by the blessings and gifts given from our Lord.

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
James 4:10
