31 for 21...Day 24

March 2012

How Common Is Down Syndrome?

One in every 691 babies in the the United States is born with Down syndrome, making Down syndrome the most common genetic condition. Approximately 400,000 Americans have Down syndrome and about 6,000 babies with Down syndrome are born in the United States each year.

Now you can see how blessed we are to have Jonathan, not every family gets to have a child who was blessed with a little something extra! Having an extra copy of chromosome 21, makes Jonathan unique :)

We, too, are blessed to have a grandson who has Downs or as we call it it - UP-Syndrome - cause Damion is always smiling! We also have the priveledge to be a part of a wonderful place called Break the Barriers. These two people started this gymnastics place 25 years ago because Deby's sister - who has Downs - didn't have anywhere to do gymnastics. And now, the teams go all over the country letting people know that it doesn't matter if you have a diabilty or not (cause we all have one) - you can do anything you want too including gymnastics! Go to: breakthebarriers.org Our son - who is 10 & has been on the team for 8 years - loves it! Have a blessed day! Janet & the Kiessling family
