Celebrating 3/21....with a giveaway

World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated
on the 21st day of the third month of year
to symbolize a third copy of the 21st chromosome in Down syndrome.

Today is
World Down Syndrome Day
and we are celebrating
the many "wonderful"
things we see and know about
Down Syndrome!

We are celebrating Jonathan,
and all of his accomplishments in life!

One area that Jonathan struggles daily in is speech,
he only has about a 50 word vocabulary.
So, for us sign language is something our whole family is learning.
With the help of books, flash cards,
and Signing Time we are learning a little bit each day.

Here is the giveaway....

We are giving away the Signing Time set
ABC & 123s

If your not familiar with Signing Time or these videos go
HERE
and have a look :)

Ways to enter:

* Just leave us a comment
* For a second entry tell if you know someone with down syndrome
* For a third entry blog this giveaway...we hope to raise awareness of the "positive"
things that
come along with down syndrome

The winner will be selected by Random.org on Monday, March 26.

The flow of life....

Often the flow of life can be much quicker than we can keep up with, and we must check ourselves not to get caught up in the rapid flow. This past week we had a death in our family, Arthur's first cousin Mary Ann. This was such a great lose to us, she will be greatly missed....my heart breaks for her mother and siblings. We find comfort in knowing she had a wonderful faith in the Lord, and she is now with her son Bob and husband Mack who went on to be with the Lord before her. Mary Ann's passing was yet, another reminder to me of what the Bible says "we know not the time of the Lord's return" and "we are not promised tomorrow"! Since we don't know when we are going to be called home or of the time of the Lord's return, shouldn't we be thinking about each day as our last? I want my time on this earth to be spent in a meaningful way, I want to live each day to it's fullest. Being in God's Word each day, growing in Him, and seeking to serve Him ......not being caught in the flow of the world! Oh to live life simply, and soak in those around me and reach out to those in need. Today I look at the faces of my children and husband, and just the simple day to day life we have..... I'm thankful to the Lord for I know I am blessed!

Potty Training #10

Potty training, my LEAST favorite child training task!!! But it must be done...and sooner than later! Last week was (past) time for Miss Ruth Ella to be potty trained! For the past 6 months she has been potty trained for bowel movements, but not for as the kids say #1 ;) She had even started to come and tell us when she was wet by saying..."you need to change me, I'm wet", definitely time to lose the diapers!

Ruth Ella really liked her diapers, because she would say it matched Mary Ann...sigh**** But after a few days of really talking up what a ~big~ girls she would be if she was potty trained, then she began to warm up to the idea. Good thing she did because like it or not I had my mind set she was going to be potty trained!

The process of training......

* Bare feet, no socks or leggings...less to get wet, when and if there is an accident!
*Take to the potty every 30-45 minutes...and hope she gets the feeling of "Oh I need to go!"
*Patience and understanding...from the Mama
and those helping

*Loads of praise and encouragement
*Reward her when she goes to the potty, with 2 Smarties...purchased in Canada when visiting our dear friends the Pauls!

STATS:

Day 1... 2 accidents
Day 2... 1 accident
Day 3... 100% potty trained!!!!!!

(OK, on day 3 we did have 1 mishap, but it wasn't Ruth Ella's fault. When at church Ruth Ella needed to go potty and I took her and she went. But when I stood her up to pull up her tights, I noticed something dripping....it was her dress!!! I didn't hold it up well enough when she was on the potty and I accidentally dunked the back of her dress...OOPS!!! Good thing we had come with a back up dress.)

It has now been 1 week since day 3...And Ruth Ella is a Happy Girl, and potty trained!!!!!! We are so proud of her!

Disclaimer: We have now potty trained 10 children, and none have had the same type potty training experience. Ruth Ella was one of our easier children to train, Amanda was by far the easiest! She woke up one morning and said she was done with diapers, and from that day on she never had an accident! If, they all could be so easy.

Wesly turned 5 today!!!!!

Born: March 7, 2007

All our children are a blessing and a gifts. But Wesley was the first blessing after Arthur had chemotherapy, and we were told there was only a 10% chance we could have any more children. Well, let me tell you God proved once again that only He knows the plans He has for you!

Wesley is a precious boy, and a bundle of energy...he is always 'On'! And we love him to pieces!!!

Today was celebrate Wesley day.......

Wesley's birthday theme was TOOLS.....

Wesley likes to work with his Daddy, and tools are so much fun!

This is Wesley's 5 year old smile :)

Oh I could just squeeze him!

The Menu:
*Cheese Enchiladas
*Queso Dip & Chips
*Pinto Beans
*Avocado, Lettuce, Jalapeno, & Salsa

Silly boys need, silly tools.....

Silly tools, make little boys happy!

With our cake we had vanilla ice cream, and fresh strawberries...so tasty!

This cake was a joint effort, Elizabeth baked the cake (chocolate), Arthur made the butter cream icing, I decorated it, and poor Rebekah cleaned up after all of us. Oh and one can't forget Ruth Ella part, she put 2 fingers into the cake once it was finished. So a little repair work had to be done, at last minute!

Wesley was so excited this year about blowing out the candles, that he blew them out before we were ready...which meant we had to light them again, he loved that!

Happy Birthday Wesley...
You are 5!!!!!!
We love you so much!!!!

A Day Trip...

I'm blogging from my phone so I'm not sure how the pictures will come out
or in what order they will appear. So, please use your imagination with
picture order and quality ;-)

A couple of weeks ago Arthur had some business to do in Rockwood, Tennessee
which is nestled in the foothills of the mountains...
so that meant a date and a day trip for us. After his business was
finished it was lunch time. The lady at the bank told Arthur about a
locally owned restaurant in their little downtown, it was the best food. We
had salad, loaded potato soup, and fried pickles ....yum! We then decided
to take a stroll through town, we window shopped ...truly a lost art. We
took in antiques, and the neatest little drug store with a working soda
fountain!

Day trips are the best! Arthur and I were able to get business taken care
of, take a day trip, see some new sites, have a wonderful lunch, and we
still made it home for dinner with our children ...it felt like a mini
vacation!

Have you gone on a day trip lately?

Super Tuesday...

Here in Tennessee it's Super Tuesday, we are on our way to vote!

The above video is of Carmen singing the song "We Need God in America Again"....isn't that just what America needs, GOD?!? I think this song sums it up so well...and yes, this song shows I'm old ;)

Remember the ability to vote is a blessing!
